The immigration peak in Australia has seen Brisbane shift to a new growth and housing pattern catering to the demand for land in the outer suburbs. With a population of over two million, Brisbane is Australia’s third largest city and has grown at a much higher rate than both Sydney and Melbourne for over ten years.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics*, population projections indicate that Brisbane’s population growth will still exceed that of Sydney and Melbourne for at least the next decade.

South East Queensland’s Regional Development Plan focuses on the key areas set to significantly expand; namely the Greater Springfield area and Yarrabilba.

Springfield

Greater Springfield is the largest master planned city in Australia. Springfield Land Corporation is the master developer of the entire 2,860 hectare (7,067 acre) Greater Springfield land parcel which has become home to over 26,000 residents and 12,000 students since it was established in 1991.

At the heart of Greater Springfield lies Springfield Central, a purpose-built, 390 hectare CBD. The Springfield CBD, occupying some 390ha, will provide an employment base for 30,000 workers within an area containing in excess of 1.4 million m2 of office, retail, educational, health and technology facilities. A university campus, health and wellness precinct and a large-scale shopping centre also stimulate economic activity within the region, and provide communal facilities and touch points around which civic pride can flourish.

Yarrabilba

Yarrabilba is located 40 kilometres south east of the Brisbane CBD, 35 kilometres north west of Southport and 15 minutes from Logan Central. It is 2,012 hectares in size. Yarrabilba will become home to approximately 45,000 + people upon completion. Approximately 17,000 residential dwellings in addition to a town centre, neighbourhood hubs and community, education and employment facilities will be delivered upon completion. Over 25% of the site will be reserved for open space, including environmental corridors, bushland reserves, parks, landscaped areas and playing fields.

A full range of education facilities will be offered, from early child care and learning to secondary and potentially higher learning. As a fully master planned community, there will also be a range of services and facilities to meet the needs of the Yarrabilba community including: Childcare, Primary Schools and Secondary Schools.
